Red Fox - Commission by Ilenora Red Fox - Commission by Ilenora
My latest polymer sculpture, a little red fox commissioned by ~Lichtherz.

I'm really proud of him :) I learned a lot, including how to make texture on the clay, using washes of paint to bring out the texture and add depth, and painting fur details. I love how the paint job came out. I included lots of details on this guy, including hand painted eyes, tiny marks for whiskers and even a textured nose :la:
His eyes and nose are coated with gloss varnish and the bottoms of his feet with satin varnish to avoid the paint scratching off. I decided not to varnish his whole body, as it would lose the natural matte look of the fur.

Also, I'm really not sure where to put these sculptures :XD: Should I put them in Artisan Crafts > Ceramics & Clay > Miniatures, Artisan Crafts > Miniatures, or Traditional > Sculpture, or what? There doesn't seem to be a really set category for these, and there's polymer clay sculpts of this nature in all the categories...

:bulletred:Details:bulletred:

Materials - Sculpey Premo polymer clay, wire, Sculpey satin & gloss varnish, acrylic paint
Height - 6 cm (2.4")
Length - 8 cm (3.1")

This is a very cute little fox, and if I were to see it in a store I'd consider buying it. As it stands though, it isn't the most original of posing. I do like how detailed you've made it, and the semi cartoonish way you've made its' paws is adorable. Your style definitely shows practice, and your coloring is nicely blended.
I really would like to see more of your future work, especially as you've pointed out in your info section, you just learned how to add texture. Keep up with your sculpture work and I'm sure you'll be making mind blowing sculptures in no time.

Artisan crafts is where things are handmade but are also made to serve a purpose e.g bowls, jewellery, allsorts really!
The ceramics and clay section is supposed to be for ceramic pots, vases, tiles, ect and other functional items made from clay :D
But loads of people put their sculptures in there anyway, I also made that mistake at first!
Unless it's dollhouse miniatures then I would put it in the traditional art sculpture section :)

Anyway this lil' guy is adorable! And he's really well made! You did a fantastic job on his fur texture and also got very realistic eyes! The detailed paint is also really good and the colours are pretty spot on :) The only thing I would say is maybe his paws could be a bit smaller as foxes have very dainty paws like cats :D

Sorry for the long comment ^^'

Sorry for my slightly delayed response ^^;

But thank you so much, and don't worry about the long comment, I really appreciate your helpfulness! :D I have shifted it to the category you suggested :meow: Thanks for that explanation, I think DA really should explain those categories better since they are so similar and people seem to just put their sculptures in any and all of them.

And thank you so much for the compliments as well, I'm so glad you like him! :la: His paws could be smaller - I didn't mean to make them so big, but I did like the cute, almost stylised look they gave him so I didn't make them smaller in the end. I will probably make them smaller next time though :D

No problem! It's nice to receive long replies :D
Yea it could be made a bit more clear to those who don't know the categories very well! It confused me a bit at first..and now all I notice is all the sculptures and other items in all the wrong categories :noes:

The big cute paws remind me a lot of one my cats..all our other cats have these little dainty paws whereas our cat Socks has these huge panther like paws which she uses for catching insects and also hitting our other cats around the head at tea time haha :D
and now I sound like a crazy cat lady ;)

Look forward to seeing your new work :)

Haha, yeah! I did read somewhere that they are redoing the category descriptions, so they might make it clearer.

Hehe, I own cats too, don't worry ;)

I really like your stuff, I've seen your Floris on the front page :D They're very cute, your work is great!

Well the internet loves cats so it's all good :D

Thank you :aww: I get to make some new ones tomorrow after not being able to for like 6 months :D
I've changed some of the design a bit so I hope people will like them! I didn't feel like the other ones I made were good enough :s
